Discover Lyme Regis
Just made it… into West Dorset and very close to the Devon border, Lyme Regis is a delightful and historical Dorset town and coastal resort, and of course, right on the Jurassic Coast. Leading down the hill towards the beautiful beach, which is really great for families, Lyme Regis suddenly appears within a picturesque setting with its narrow streets, beach and its renowned harbour.
The harbour is ancient too… possibly late 13th/early 14th century known as The Cobb, a grade I listed structure, is very long, curved and great for walking along with spectacular views back onto to Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast coastline and cliffs. A scene from ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ starring Meryl Streep was filmed here in the early 1980s.
It’s fantastic for fossils too… Lyme Regis and this Jurassic Coast area is famous for its fossils. Fossil hunters come from all over the world to see what can be found here, and there are several museums and shops displaying fossils – so it’s a great place for exploring!

Great for visitors… with many events and festivals being held here throughout the year as well as various visitor attractions to enjoy such as the Aquarium, Dinorsaur Land and Lyme Regis Museum and great family fun enjoy crazy golf.
Love literature?… then Lyme Regis is also great area to visit for everyone who adores the life and novels of Jane Austen. She visited many times and was well known in Lyme Regis, and her novels often included references and descriptions of this delightful historic coastal town.

So all in all… Lyme Regis, although a small Jurassic coastal town, it certainly has plenty to offer for everyone visiting whether its a day visit, weekend or longer holidays. Here it’s possible to walk and explore the narrow streets and footpaths throughout the town and coastal area. Also, don’t forget, the organised history and fossil walks available and the very interesting fossil museums.
