Discover Lyme Regis

Just made it… into West Dorset and very close to the Devon border, Lyme Regis is a delightful and historical Dorset town and coastal resort, and of course, right on the Jurassic Coast. Leading down the hill towards the beautiful beach, which is really great for families, Lyme Regis suddenly appears within a picturesque setting with its narrow streets, beach and its renowned harbour.

The harbour is ancient too… possibly late 13th/early 14th century known as The Cobb, a grade I listed structure, is very long, curved and great for walking along with spectacular views back onto to Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast coastline and cliffs. A scene from  ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ starring Meryl Streep was filmed here in the early 1980s.

It’s fantastic for fossils too… Lyme Regis and this Jurassic Coast area is famous for its fossils. Fossil hunters come from all over the world to see what can be found here, and there are several museums and shops displaying fossils – so it’s a great place for exploring!
